The embroidery is made by skill in the choice and consistency of colors and eventually becomes a painting with a different expression that expresses the life and traditions of a given region or tribe. They are decorated with simple geometric shapes such as triangle, rectangle, and rectangle as well as squares.
The Moroccan Berber people „Amazigh“ are known for their colorful cotton carpets. They all are hand made from cotton strips, laid out in the living rooms and they are also used to sleep on. These carpets are very tough in use (when you do it like the Moroccans and take your shoes off!), can be washed and dried in the sun.
In this workshop, you have the opportunity to knot your own, tiny carpet in a Berber family home, with Fatima. She will explain everything (I will translate of course), and at the end of the day, you can take your own little Boucharouite carpet with you.
This workshop takes place in Tassa Ouirgane. You can either walk or ride on a mule, about 1,5 hours from your accommodation in the Ouirgane area. When you come from Marrakech, the taxi will take you directly to the village. Material is included in the price, and also prepared, so you can start immediately.
If you are in a group, this workshop can also be combined with our 'Berber Experience with Cooking Class', so maybe everybody finds his favorite activity.
